I finally got around to creating a customized profile on myspace last night. From a web developer’s point of view, it was a nightmare. The code required doesn’t come anywhere near what’s considered valid code. I would have thought myspace could have provided a place to link to, or create, a custom CSS file for a profile. But no, that would make sense. Instead you have to drop into a textarea box further down the page which causes your profile to load up initially looking ‘normal’ (eeeewwww) and then it loads your custom stylings. Oh, and don’t expect to be able to easily modify anything, because they didn’t assign classes to any of the tables. But expect to change all sorts of classes when it comes to the text.

Anyway, I was going to write up a brief tutorial on how to edit your own page, but then I saw that there are some profile editors already out there. So, if anyone has a compulsion to learn to hand code a myspace profile, or just need a little help with it, let me know. Otherwise, go automated. ;)

Here’s a couple sites that might be of use:

Oh, and go here to see my updated profile.

Hmm… wonder if I can mod my tagworld profile too….

After much time and effort I was finally able to gain approval from FreecycleTM to start a local group. For those who haven’t heard of Freecycle go check out their website. Basically, it’s a way to find people who want/need all the ‘junk’ you have piling up around your house and in doing so it reduces the amount of stuff sent to the landfills. I first learned about it from a relative down in Florida who’s always giving away things and receiving things from her local chapter. All in all it’s a pretty neat concept. If you’re interested and you live in Phillips County, Arkansas then go join my group!! If you’re interested and live elsewhere, check out the Freecycle website for groups in your area.
