I finally got around to creating a customized profile on myspace last night. From a web developer’s point of view, it was a nightmare. The code required doesn’t come anywhere near what’s considered valid code. I would have thought myspace could have provided a place to link to, or create, a custom CSS file for a profile. But no, that would make sense. Instead you have to drop into a textarea box further down the page which causes your profile to load up initially looking ‘normal’ (eeeewwww) and then it loads your custom stylings. Oh, and don’t expect to be able to easily modify anything, because they didn’t assign classes to any of the tables. But expect to change all sorts of classes when it comes to the text.
Anyway, I was going to write up a brief tutorial on how to edit your own page, but then I saw that there are some profile editors already out there. So, if anyone has a compulsion to learn to hand code a myspace profile, or just need a little help with it, let me know. Otherwise, go automated.
Here’s a couple sites that might be of use:
- modmyspace
- surfourspace
- myspacesupport Waaay too many ads though
Oh, and go here to see my updated profile.
Hmm… wonder if I can mod my tagworld profile too….
