Less than three days after being shot in the line of duty, a New York State Police Officer has died. Trooper Joseph Longobardo, 32, died Sunday afternoon from injuries he suffered during the manhunt for Ralph “Bucky” Phillips. I’m not a personal friend of the family. Nor do I have any insight other than what I’ve read online as I’ve searched around. But as a former LEO (who still misses his job) my heart goes out to Trooper Longobardo’s family as well as Trooper Baker and his family.
The purpose of this post is threefold:
- To ask everyone to pray for Trooper Longobardo’s family
- To ask everyone to pray for Trooper Donald Baker Jr. who was shot in the back during the same incident
- To ask everyone to pray for the capture and conviction of the murderer
At this time, the NYSP are conducting one of the largest manhunts in New York history for a man by the name of Ralph “Bucky” Phillips. From what I’ve read online it seems that Trooper Longobardo was the 2nd Trooper killed by Phillips. Obviously this person is considered armed and extremely dangerous. Authorities are offering a $225,000 reward. The following wanted poster was found on the New York State Police website.
