Day 3 started off a little rocky. Right off the bat, my cell phone dies. I had to grab an old spare and swap the sim cards. My first appointment was a total bust. As I walked through the door the business owner glares at me and starts yelling about not having time and that we were going to have to cancel. I looked at him and told him that I was pretty busy but that I could work him in somewhere around 2 or 3 this afternoon. He paused and stared at me. I asked if 3 sounded good. He just nodded his head. So out the door I went.
I stopped in on one of the guys I spoke with Monday. He tells me that if he doesn’t hear back from his bank by 2:30 today he’s signing a deal with me. I told him I was busy but that I’d try to make it back by. But I didn’t. I’ll have to go by there tomorrow.
My next appointment was a bit different. I walked in and introduced myself and the guy looked like he had seen a ghost. Then he mumbled something about having just signed up with another company. After getting him talking again, I discovered that another rep had just left 15 minutes before I arrived and the guy had signed with him.
I started asking questions, more out of my own curiosity than anything (I wanted to see how we compared). The other rep had me beat in a few areas, but the free equipment and 3-n-1 cards put me over the top.
That and I refused to leave. The guy kept trying to politely tell me to go and that he would get back with me later. He was trying to get the first rep back on the phone so as to ask some questions but he wasn’t having any luck. I just kept filling out the contract and telling him I wasn’t in a hurry. Finally, after about an hour of me sitting there making small talk I guess it clicked that I wasn’t leaving until he signed up, so he did. My first one!!
After that I had an appointment at a local seafood supplier. I walk in and was stopped instantly by the lady with whom I was to meet. I had been told that she was interested in everything. She tells me that all she wanted to know was how much was my rate on check processing. I try to go into my presentation and she stops me and reiterates her question. I answer it and am promptly shown the door, in a nice way of course.
All in all, it was a good day. Tomorrow should be better.
