Most of you who read my blog know that I was raised in Arkansas and now live in Florida. But what you probably don’t know is that I was born and bred in Texas. So, when the following was emailed to me, I just had to post it. :)

People here in Texas have trouble with all those shalls and shall nots in the Ten Commandments. Folks here just aren’t used to talking in those terms. So, some folks out in West Texas got together and translated the “King James” version into “King Ranch” version: Ten Commandments, cowboy style.

Cowboy’s Ten Commandments posted on the wall at Cross Trails Church in Fairlie, Texas.

  1. Just one God.
  2. Honor yer Ma & Pa.
  3. No telling tales or gossipin’.
  4. Git yourself to Sunday meeting.
  5. Put nothin’ before God.
  6. No foolin’ around with Another fellow’s gal.
  7. No killin’.
  8. Watch yer mouth.
  9. Don’t take what ain’t yers.
  10. Don’t be hankerin’ for yer buddy’s stuff.

That’s kinda plain ‘n simple don’t ya think?

About three weeks or so ago I had received a call from a gentleman at AmeriBanc National Ltd. The guy was offering me a job. He said he had found my resume on monster.com and was interested in my background. I’m thinking, maybe he needs a website. I was wrong. He needed a salesman. I listened. I questioned. I researched it overnight and was prepared to take the job the next day. But, my wife advised against it.

One week goes by, no big deal. Two weeks go by and I start wishing I had taken the guy up on his offer. Nearly 3 weeks after our initial conversation I get another call. The guy flatters me and tells me how great I’d be and even tells me that he’s got two other people that could do the job but that he wants me. Do I buy it? No. But I did enjoy it. :)

So, same as before, I put him off and run it past my wife. This time, without hesitation, she tells me to take the job. So I did. And now I get to spend a couple days in Orlando next week at a training.

Less than three days after being shot in the line of duty, a New York State Police Officer has died. Trooper Joseph Longobardo, 32, died Sunday afternoon from injuries he suffered during the manhunt for Ralph “Bucky” Phillips. I’m not a personal friend of the family. Nor do I have any insight other than what I’ve read online as I’ve searched around. But as a former LEO (who still misses his job) my heart goes out to Trooper Longobardo’s family as well as Trooper Baker and his family.

The purpose of this post is threefold:

  1. To ask everyone to pray for Trooper Longobardo’s family
  2. To ask everyone to pray for Trooper Donald Baker Jr. who was shot in the back during the same incident
  3. To ask everyone to pray for the capture and conviction of the murderer
