This morning we went up to the office to pay rent on our apartment. While my wife ran in to pay the rent I sat in the van with my younger two daughters. During this time, my five year old and I had the following conversation. Of course this is probably one of those, you had to be there moments, but I wanted to try and share it as best as I could anyway.

For the last couple days it just seems that every time we turn around something else is going wrong. Then today I realize that I’m about $500 short of what I need to move and we’re suppose to be moving a week from today. Then tonight while boxing some things my wife notices water dripping from the ceiling in one of our daughter’s bedrooms. After checking to see if it’s raining, and finding that it’s not, I grabbed my ladder and rushed up into the attic to find that the drain hose to the furnace was stopped up. While working on that, I dropped my hanging light and popped the bulb. Then my flashlight went out. Lot’s of fun. But, Praise God, I got it.

A month ago I would have just called a repairman because I know nothing about these sorts of things. But when my dad came up from Texas last month he got on to me for that. He said that if I was going to pay a repairman, I could at least try and fix it first. The worst case scenario would be the exact same as the beginning, I’d have to call a repairman. So, Dad, if you read this, I actually fixed something!!! ;)

Over the last several months I’ve been working a lesson plan on stewardship to share at church. At first it was going a bit slow, but over the last week God has just been opening things up to me like never before. It’s odd how a scripture in the Bible that I’ve read hundreds of times over the last ten years can come so alive all the sudden.

I wanted to share just a couple lines with everyone though. When I first started hearing about financial stewardship I just lumped it in with the financial prosperity sermons I’ve been hearing for years. I even had a bit of an attitude about it since I’m obviously not exactly living the ‘good’ life. But once I started praying and studying this, I found that I was off a ways. What I realized, courtesy of the Holy Spirit, is that financial stewardship is a fancy name for just being faithful with what we’re given. God showed me how, at different times in life, He has made me prosperous for a time but because I had no idea about being a good steward I would inevitably squander what I had been given.

That revelation led to several others and now I’m wanting to finish up this lesson plan and teach others. Eventually I’m sure I’ll post much of it online as well. And on a slightly related topic, I highly recommend that everyone get a copy of a little booklet written by Charles Capps called God’s Creative Power. It is a very light read but contains a very powerful principal. You can purchase them off the Official Charles Capps website for only a couple dollars.

I recently joined another online community site called Christian Connect. While participating in a debate of sorts on the origins of everything, a seemingly agnostic fellow made a comment that stuck with me. He stated

Creationists are in the business of trying to disprove evolution, but never disclose their evidence for their hypotheses. Do you believe that if creationists ever find a way to disprove evolution, that it (creationism) wins by default?

As is often the case, I thought about this for a week or so before taking the time to start researching anything. But once I got going I noticed a couple things. First off, I learned that no longer is the debate primarily between evolution and creation, but that there is now a new contender called intelligent design. Prior to doing a bit of research I had assumed that creation and intelligent design were the same, but I find now that they are, in fact, very different in certain areas.

For quite some time now my wife has talked about getting a tattoo and is encouraging me to get one as well. Unfortunately I’m much more picky than she about what I’m going to have permanently etched onto my body. I want something that means something to me. Well, a couple weeks back I got to thinking about about the passage in 1 Corinthians 13 that says And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. (NIV). I thought it would be cool to come up with some sort of tattoo representing this. This thought came to me while at work so it didn’t take long for me to forget about it. Then, tonight at church, my Pastor said something and I remembered thinking about this.
