Over the last several months I’ve been working a lesson plan on stewardship to share at church. At first it was going a bit slow, but over the last week God has just been opening things up to me like never before. It’s odd how a scripture in the Bible that I’ve read hundreds of times over the last ten years can come so alive all the sudden.

I wanted to share just a couple lines with everyone though. When I first started hearing about financial stewardship I just lumped it in with the financial prosperity sermons I’ve been hearing for years. I even had a bit of an attitude about it since I’m obviously not exactly living the ‘good’ life. But once I started praying and studying this, I found that I was off a ways. What I realized, courtesy of the Holy Spirit, is that financial stewardship is a fancy name for just being faithful with what we’re given. God showed me how, at different times in life, He has made me prosperous for a time but because I had no idea about being a good steward I would inevitably squander what I had been given.

That revelation led to several others and now I’m wanting to finish up this lesson plan and teach others. Eventually I’m sure I’ll post much of it online as well. And on a slightly related topic, I highly recommend that everyone get a copy of a little booklet written by Charles Capps called God’s Creative Power. It is a very light read but contains a very powerful principal. You can purchase them off the Official Charles Capps website for only a couple dollars.

I recently joined another online community site called Christian Connect. While participating in a debate of sorts on the origins of everything, a seemingly agnostic fellow made a comment that stuck with me. He stated

Creationists are in the business of trying to disprove evolution, but never disclose their evidence for their hypotheses. Do you believe that if creationists ever find a way to disprove evolution, that it (creationism) wins by default?

As is often the case, I thought about this for a week or so before taking the time to start researching anything. But once I got going I noticed a couple things. First off, I learned that no longer is the debate primarily between evolution and creation, but that there is now a new contender called intelligent design. Prior to doing a bit of research I had assumed that creation and intelligent design were the same, but I find now that they are, in fact, very different in certain areas.

For quite some time now my wife has talked about getting a tattoo and is encouraging me to get one as well. Unfortunately I’m much more picky than she about what I’m going to have permanently etched onto my body. I want something that means something to me. Well, a couple weeks back I got to thinking about about the passage in 1 Corinthians 13 that says And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. (NIV). I thought it would be cool to come up with some sort of tattoo representing this. This thought came to me while at work so it didn’t take long for me to forget about it. Then, tonight at church, my Pastor said something and I remembered thinking about this.

I recently ordered a money map from Crown Financial Ministries and it finally came in today. It’s pretty cool way to get your finances on the right track. The map is a little over simplified though but it covers the main points. For someone like myself who is a bit behind financially this will help me to set some goals and track my progress.

So, I embark on my journey toward my first goal, to increase my savings to $1,000.00. Given the fact that my current living expenses exceed my income by around $600 a month and I’m already in the hole, this may be a long journey.

Oh, for those who are interested, head over to the Crown Money Map website for more information for the money map, and check out their free tools as well. I took their Personality I.D. quiz and it showed that I’m bold, impatient, and all sorts of things. It’s pretty cool.

I was just reading a post on the Take Up The Shield blog about being ‘just a cop.’ Now, I know I am in the job I’m in because that’s were God wanted me. It fits His plan for this time in my life. Who’s to say when it will be time to go, or if it will ever be time to go. But, for now, I am where He wants me. As a born again child of God, I’ve read scriptures in the Bible that can encourage an officer. But Chaplain Tony mentions a couple I hadn’t seen before and uses scripture to answer the question of “Why?”
