A while back I did a post on LostCherry.com (LC), an alternative to myspace without the teenybopper crowd. The place appears to be ran by one, Mike Hedlund. The whole atmosphere of the place is suppose to be that of a cool place to hang out without the whole corporate world. Mike presents himself as the ever humble, yet overworked webmaster who is putting in a hundred hours a week for something he loves. And everyone believes him…

A couple days ago I get an instant message from my wife about a website she had just found called LostCherry.com. When I got the URL I was wondering if it was something I should be looking at.
My wife assured me that it was just a myspace alternative. After taking a spin through the site I’ve got to admit, I love it.

Recently I had looked up some old information on meta tags for a friend of mine. It seems that there are a lot of places out there still preaching the meta keywords tag as the holy grail of SEO and my friend wanted to make sure that she done them right. I went ahead and provided the requested information along with a few choice excerpts from other authors on the current state of meta tags in general.

I finally got around to creating a customized profile on myspace last night. From a web developer’s point of view, it was a nightmare. The code required doesn’t come anywhere near what’s considered valid code. I would have thought myspace could have provided a place to link to, or create, a custom CSS file for a profile. But no, that would make sense. Instead you have to drop into a textarea box further down the page which causes your profile to load up initially looking ‘normal’ (eeeewwww) and then it loads your custom stylings. Oh, and don’t expect to be able to easily modify anything, because they didn’t assign classes to any of the tables. But expect to change all sorts of classes when it comes to the text.
Anyway, I was going to write up a brief tutorial on how to edit your own page, but then I saw that there are some profile editors already out there. So, if anyone has a compulsion to learn to hand code a myspace profile, or just need a little help with it, let me know. Otherwise, go automated.
Here’s a couple sites that might be of use:
- modmyspace
- surfourspace
- myspacesupport Waaay too many ads though
Oh, and go here to see my updated profile.
Hmm… wonder if I can mod my tagworld profile too….
I was just playing around on the net and came across a website I’d never seen before. The domain name is www.ilovejackdaniels.com/. The site is ran by Dave Child, a web developer from the south of the UK. I loved the cheat sheets Dave had set up for PHP, MySQL, and CSS (he has others as well, but these three are right up my alley). Dave also has a nice tutorial on php as well. So, if you’re interested in things of that sort, give the site a visit.
